If you are ready to take your toddler on an adventure and you’re searching for a travel stroller this post is for you.

On our last vacation, we traveled to three countries – with a toddler, with luggage, and with a stroller.

We didn’t just bring along one of the two strollers sitting in our dining room (a story for another day); instead, just a couple weeks before our journey we purchased a travel stroller.

What is a travel stroller?

A travel stroller is a stroller designed to be more compact and convenient than the strollers we traditionally use while at home. The strollers are usually lighter and fold easily.

Who needs a travel stroller?

Depending on the size of your toddler, a travel stroller is a good companion to a carrier while traveling. But this also depends on the type of trip you are planning.

  • You may not need a stroller if your trip involves frequent hiking. A carrier would be a better fit.

For our Euro-rail trip, we knew we’d spend tons of time walking and using public transportation so a travel stroller was a must and the stroller ended up being one of the most used items we brought along.

What features does a good travel stroller have?

We all have our preferences but the things we were looking for while we were searching include:

  • Lightweight – some airlines have weight restrictions, so be sure to check it out.
  • Easy to fold – the last thing you want is to have to fight to fold up your stroller while foot traffic builds up behind you on the metro.
  • Shoulder strap – a shoulder strap is extremely helpful. It means you can throw the stroller over your shoulder and be on your way, even if you don’t have assistance.
  • Reclines – as I mentioned earlier, nap times are crucial. If you have a stroller that reclines your child can nap without you having to go back to your hotel or other accommodations.
  • Handles difficult terrain well – while vacationing you may encounter cobblestone, dirt, gravel, rock – who knows? A sturdy stroller can handle it all.
  • Shelter– the stroller needed to have a cover for protection from the sun and rain.

Best Travel Stroller, How to shop for travel stroller

I didn’t think we were requesting too much but everything has a price.

What does a good travel stroller cost?

Good doesn’t mean pricey and when we ended up choosing the Summer Infant 3D Lite Convenience Stroller. It had all the above features and cost approximately $80 on Amazon (If you don’t have Amazon Prime, try it out for FREE for 30-days – we love the two-day shipping).

For us, Summer Infant 3D Lite Stroller was a good middle ground between the cheap $20 strollers that we thought would break down too easily and the mid-range strollers that were hundreds of dollars. Thankfully, it worked extremely well for our needs.

  • We also used a baby carrier that was super convenient and easy. If you want a review on the baby carrier we used, let me know in the comments.
  • Our toddler is a good walker but moving from planes, trains, and subways can be a hassle without a stroller.
  • The stroller only has one shoulder strap and doesn’t come with a bag. That wasn’t an issue for us.

If your travels call for a travel stroller, you don’t have to spend a ton of money. Make a list of the features that you want in your stroller and find one that works for your family.

We love the Summer Infant 3D Lite Convenience Stroller.

If you don’t want all the features I mentioned above that’s fine just really consider getting a stroller that allows for naps. That was the most important feature of our travel stroller.
